Overview of the College for Graduate Studies
 

The College of Natural and Health Sciences at Virginia State University offers rigorous graduate programs designed to prepare scholars, researchers, and practitioners for advanced roles in science and health-related fields. Through a blend of theoretical knowledge, applied research, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the College fosters academic excellence and scientific inquiry at the graduate level. Students pursuing a Master of Science in Biology or Psychology, or a Doctor of Philosophy in Health Psychology, are immersed in a challenging curriculum that promotes critical thinking, ethical practice, and evidence-based innovation. The graduate experience is enriched by access to research laboratories, faculty mentorship, and opportunities for scholarly contribution to the scientific community.

Objectives of the College for graduate Studies
 

The primary objectives of the graduate programs within the College of Natural and Health Sciences are to:

  • Maintain and continually enhance the quality of graduate instruction and research across all academic disciplines.

  • Prepare students for advanced careers in academia, research institutions, healthcare organizations, and government or industry sectors.

  • Equip graduates with the knowledge, skills, and ethical grounding necessary to contribute to the advancement of health science and psychological well-being.

  • Support scholarly inquiry and the pursuit of doctoral and post-doctoral education.
